Design for Joy: Mooz Boxed Set
“Mooz'' is a customizable self-care boxed set brand that aims to bring inner peace into people’s lives and improve the “Zoom Fatigue.” The name “Mooz” comes from “Zoom” spelled backward, and it shares a similar pronunciation with the word “moods.” Since March 2020, many people around the world have been working from home due to the coronavirus pandemic. The swift shift to remote work has proved challenging for many. I conducted interviews with thirty-two people who were working from home to ask what brought them joy at the moment. The results revealed that people don’t find visuals as delightful as they did pre-pandemic due to the excessive amount of screen time they experience working remotely. People working during the pandemic face unique threats to mental health. So I designed this scented mask boxed set, hoping to create a safe space for them to take a break from the virtual world. My strategy focuses on the power of simplicity. By minimizing the use of sight, we are able to expand and augment the experience of other senses. The nature-scented masks are designed to invite the smell of the outside world into the isolated stay-at-home lifestyle. While the pairing music interface uses the sound of nature to set users’ imaginations free. The boxed set uses material from seasonal agricultural fibers to mimic the texture of nature and lessen the negative impact on the environment. This research project is a fully user-centered experimentation. It is designed for the users and by the users.
